Thousands from First Baptist Dallas to Join Pastor Robert Jeffress Downtown to “March for Eternal Life,” a Jubilant Celebration of Palm Sunday
The evening event, which garnered national media attention the past two years, begins with a concert by Grammy and Dove award-winning artist Michael W. Smith and culminates as the crowd carries a 16-foot illuminated cross from First Baptist Dallas through the streets of downtown
DALLAS — Led by Dr. Robert Jeffress, thousands will march to celebrate the beginning of Holy Week with the “March for Eternal Life” on Palm Sunday evening, April 14, 2019. Central to the march will be the 16-foot-tall by 11-foot-wide brightly illuminated cross carried through the streets of downtown Dallas.
The Palm Sunday evening events begin with a concert featuring the First Dallas Choir and Orchestra and Grammy and Dove award-winning artist, Michael W. Smith. Dr. Robert Jeffress will lead the congregation in the observance of the Lord’s Supper, and the evening will culminate with the march.
The cross holds particular significance because church members have spent the weeks leading up to Palm Sunday writing first names or initials of those they are praying for this Easter season on the sides of the illuminated cross.
Thousands will carry the illuminated cross from the church to a downtown park. Two traditional New Orleans style brass bands will lead the way. When the church arrives at the park, the First Dallas Choir & Orchestra along with musical guest, Michael W. Smith, will lead the crowd in worship. Dr. Robert Jeffress will share a powerful, gospel message.
Jeffress explained the reason for the Carry the Cross march: “Palm Sunday begins the most holy week on the Christian calendar as we remember the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for our victory. Our Choir & Orchestra will join Michael W. Smith for a tremendous evening of music culminating in the Lord's Supper," Dr. Jeffress said. "Then, we will go to St. Paul Street and we will carry that giant illuminated cross through the streets of downtown Dallas as a witness of our faith in Christ being America's only hope," he concluded.
