I wake up each day with two incredible privileges. First, I am on the staff of what I believe is the greatest church on this side of heaven, First Baptist Dallas. Secondly, I get the opportunity to serve on one of the most strategic ministry teams within the life of our church, the Pastoral Care Team.
Our team is comprised of incredibly talented and gifted men and women. These individuals work out their callings in ways that are not always seen publicly each week but are felt by the membership of our church as we walk with them through times of tragedy or triumph.
If I were to define exactly what it is we do within the Pastoral Care Ministries of First Baptist Dallas I would offer this overall theme: “We seek to meet the spiritual needs of our congregation by creating an avenue of ministry and communication where no one walks alone.”
That last phrase, “where no one walks alone,” really paints the picture of how we minister to the membership of First Baptist Dallas. In a large church like ours, it can be very easy to get lost in the crowd. We work alongside our ministry teams to make sure that this doesn’t occur. Some of the ways we attempt to make sure that no one walks alone is through…
Hospital Ministry: From praying before major surgeries to visiting and checking on members during their hospital stay, we make sure that our members, “do not walk alone,” during times of sickness.
Bereavement Ministry: From working alongside families who have lost a loved one by (1) helping them plan and carry out a celebration of life service, to (2) staying in contact and helping them through the grief process through our grief study, we make sure that our members do not “walk alone” in times of loss.
Homebound Ministry: From communicating with members who are not able to attend regularly because of extenuating circumstances, we make sure that our older saints who have served this church so faithfully in years past don’t “walk alone.”
Baptism Ministry: We have the privilege of helping people begin one of the most foundational parts of their walk with the Lord through scriptural baptism. Through this ministry, we are able to make sure that each individual understands their decision to follow Christ in obedience, and we celebrate this important time making sure they don’t “walk alone” as they begin their journey of growth in Christ.
Marriage Ministry: We walk alongside engaged couples who desire to be married in our church by spending adequate time through pre-marital counseling sessions, ensuring the couple is ready for marriage. At times through the marriage journey, we are able to minister to those who need encouragement in their marriage so that couples within our church never “walk alone.”
Financial Matters Ministry: Through the generosity of members within our church, we are able to work with members who have recently found themselves in a tough time financially. This ministry comes alongside members in times of need but also offers resources and planning to help them hopefully avoid facing this time again in their lives.
These are just a few examples of how we as the Pastoral Care Ministries team stand behind the scenes ministering to those within our church family, encouraging them to stand strong.
We take seriously our biblical charge found in Isaiah 41:10: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you with my victorious right hand.”
We take great joy in working alongside our staff to minister to the needs of our people here at First Baptist Dallas as we remind them that they do not “walk alone.”
