“Now the Lord has fulfilled His word which He spoke; for I have risen in the place of my father David and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.” - 2 Chronicles 6:10
The Lord had not only provided the material resources for the building of the temple in David’s life, but He also gave talents to Solomon that enabled him to build the temple during his reign. God also endowed a wide array of people with the gifts and talents needed to accomplish the mission at hand. The craftsmen, goldsmiths, and other artists used the natural abilities that God had blessed them with so that they could build something truly monumental. Like those craftsmen, God has blessed us with unique gifts, talents, and abilities that we too are called to steward over.
Everyone had a part to play—no one was left out. The temple not only needed those who knew how to do heavy physical labor. It also needed artists, singers, musicians, shepherds, ranchers, farmers, and vine keepers. For the temple worship to be conducted, there needed to be wine, oil, wheat, and animals for sacrifice. Gardeners were needed who would harvest the ingredients used to create the unique blend of incense for the temple. Weavers, tailors, and seamstresses had a vital role to play as they used their craft to make cloth and temple garments for the priests.
Everyone not only had something they could contribute financially. They could also contribute their time and talents. What a privilege to be able to use the gifts that God has given to us for His glory in His service!
