“Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse. Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” - Psalm 150
The Psalms record praises to God through song and prayer. In each Psalm, we see a glimpse of how we should react in each of life’s circumstances. God is truly worthy of our praise, honor, and trust. Psalms contains songs of rejoicing, mourning, lamentation, and repentance. Throughout the five books that comprise the Psalms, we see prayers of gratitude and of desperation, of joy, and of thanksgiving. The truth is, God created us to worship. When we rejoice in all things we acknowledge that He is ultimately in complete control.
No matter what life throws your way, rejoice. In the good times, sing His praises. In the bad times, worship the Lord. God gives us a reason to praise Him because of what the Lord has done for us. Praise the Lord! Psalm 147:1 reminds us that “it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant and praise is becoming.”
God gave us the gift of music and of praise. What an awesome privilege and joy to be able to connect with the Lord through prayer and through song. Through our example of worship, we also pass along this gift to the next generation.
