DALLAS, TX (APRIL 9, 2017) — Sunday night, April 9, 2017, thousands of members from the First Baptist Church of Dallas, led by Dr. Robert Jeffress, marched through the streets of downtown Dallas carrying a 16-foot-tall by 11-foot-wide brightly illuminated cross to remind citizens of the true meaning of Palm Sunday.
The Carry the Cross Celebration had been planned by the church for months and was not a direct response to the Mega March earlier that day, but Jeffress said the church’s march served as a reminder that Palm Sunday is about Jesus Christ and not politics. “While some have chosen to use Palm Sunday to deliver a political message,” said Jeffress, “we wanted to have a Palm Sunday march to deliver the most important spiritual message of all – that God loves us.”
The crowd of thousands was led by a traditional New Orleans-style band and carried the giant cross from First Baptist Dallas to Klyde Warren Park, where Dr. Jeffress shared the true meaning of Palm Sunday, invited everyone at the park to join them next week for Easter at First Dallas, and they closed singing “Amazing Grace.”
Join us this Easter Sunday at 9:15 or 10:50am to worship our risen Lord. Dr. Jeffress will teach on “3 Reasons the Resurrection Matters.”
