At Pastor Robert Jeffress’ “March for Eternal Life,” Thousands Marched Through the Streets of Downtown Dallas Proclaiming the Hope Jesus Christ Offers the World
This march is our way of saying as Christians we believe the greatest hope for our city, nation, and world is faith in Jesus Christ.
DALLAS — Nearly 4,000 Christians publicly demonstrated their faith by marching through the streets of downtown Dallas in the “March for Eternal Life.” This event, in its third year, saw people of all ages and races marching together to the accompaniment of two live New Orleans style jazz bands and waving high palm branches in commemoration of Palm Sunday.
Central to the march was a 16-foot-tall by 11-foot-wide brightly illuminated cross, carried by the crowd, and erected for the event in a place of prominence in the park. The cross holds particular significance because church members spent the weeks leading up to Palm Sunday writing the first names or initials of those they are praying for this Easter season on the sides of the cross.
When the crowd arrived at Klyde Warren Park in the heart of downtown, they were led in music by Grammy and Dove award-winning artist, Michael W. Smith. Dr. Robert Jeffress addressed the crowd by delivering a powerful gospel message. “The Good News of the gospel is it doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done in the past, God loves you and He’s ready to forgive you if you trust in Christ for salvation.”
The march began immediately after a concert by Michael W. Smith and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper at First Baptist Dallas. Dr. Jeffress remarked, “This march is our way of saying as Christians we believe the greatest hope for our city, nation, and world is faith in Jesus Christ. Our hope isn’t in politics, it’s not in the economy, it’s in Jesus Christ.”
Dr. Jeffress said. “People wonder why we call it the 'March for Eternal Life.' It’s what Jesus promised each of us when He said ‘For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’”
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the most holy week on the Christian calendar. To learn more about the “The March for Eternal Life” and the Easter message Dr. Robert Jeffress will deliver Sunday, April 21, 2019, “If Jesus Is Still Dead, So What?” visit firstdallas.org/easter.
