“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your MIND…” Luke 10:27

There is a battle for our minds raging in culture today, but we can strengthen our minds and guard against its influence. Here are five keys for loving the Lord with our minds and training it in the things of the Lord.

Key 1: Avoid ungodly input.

Refuse to feed your mind with things that loosen and lessen your resolve for obedience to God. If you're serious about staying strong in your faith, then you must avoid ungodly input.

"The mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart." Matthew 12:34

Key 2: Avoid ungodly people.

Jesus taught that there are two paths leading in two opposite directions: a wide path to destruction and a narrow path to eternal life. If you want to experience the blessing of God in your life, then you will refuse to be on the wide road with people who are headed to destruction.

"How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!" Psalm 1:1

Key 3: Read God's Word regularly.

To avoid spiritual malnourishment, make reading and studying God's Word a part of your regular routine. Growing in your knowledge of God is the key to standing firm in your faith, resisting sin in your life, and experiencing intimacy with the Lord.

"Take to your heart all of the words with which I am warning you today...For it is not an idle word for you; indeed it is your life." Deuteronomy 32:46

Key 4: Make frequent deposits in your spiritual bank account.

Committing scripture to memory will keep you strong in the faith. The deposit of God's Word in your heart will pay dividends in every area of your life.

"But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night." Psalm 1:2

Key 5: Confront wrong thoughts with God's Word.

You can't control the thoughts that come into your mind, but you can control what you do with those thoughts. You can allow them to linger, cause them to metastasize in your life, or you can capture those wrong thoughts with the truth of God's Word, subdue them, and eventually dismiss them.

"We are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5

You alone are responsible for you relationship with Christ, and it all begins with your mind. When you follow these five principles, you will experience "the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2)."
