“Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs. He touched my mouth with it and said, ‘Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven.’" — Isaiah 6:6–7
Aside from the Psalms, perhaps no other book is quoted more in the New Testament than the Book of Isaiah. The life of Isaiah not only shows how God offered salvation for Israel if they would repent of their evil ways and return to the Lord. He was also a powerful prophet who foretold of a coming King. This Messiah-King would be a suffering servant, offering salvation for the nations. The apostles realized that the Messiah was Jesus, and in Him, they saw the fulfillment of the writings of the Prophet Isaiah which had been written some centuries earlier.
God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ is a free gift that He offers to all who are willing to accept and believe. Of course, this gift came at a heavy price, one which was prophetically foretold in the writings of Isaiah. This gift of salvation, that is so beautifully described, is still available to all of us today if we only… “Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the Lord, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:6-7).
God has given us the gift of salvation. What a privilege and opportunity we have to share this wonderful gift with others.
