“Then the Lord raised up judges who delivered them from the hands of those who plundered them.”  - Judges 2:16

Throughout the Book of Judges, we see all too often how hard life can be when we live a life that is not fully surrendered to God. Israel would rebel, be oppressed, repent, and the Lord would send a judge to provide a rescue and a chance for restoration. In our own lives, we see the eternal restoration that God has promised us through a saving faith in Jesus Christ. The New Testament tells us that Jesus came to set the captives free and provide us with a restored relationship with our Heavenly Father. It is amazing to see just how patient and how merciful God was to Israel in providing correction and restoration time and time again. God gave His forgiveness and mercy freely. Through Christ, He rescued and restored us to Himself, once and for all. Have you ever offended or angered someone intentionally? Our actions and words have consequences that can leave scars for years. Have you been hurt and still carry the pain and injury around with you every day? I am so thankful that our God is not just the God of second chances but of third, fourth, or even a thousand chances.

Just as God was generous with His mercy and forgiveness to Israel during the time of the judges, He is also generous with us. God offers us rescue, redemption, and restoration through Jesus Christ. We serve a God who is generous with His mercy and who is overwhelmingly generous with His love. His love is unconditional, but His forgiveness is very conditional. We experience the gift of redemption when we have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. He is, after all, the ultimate Judge of all judges.
