Welcome Home, Joy India Medical Mission Trip

India - DaltaAs Thanksgiving approaches, members of the 2009 Joy India Medical Mission trip have given First Baptist Dallas even more to be grateful for. The team provided medical treatment to 2,108 adults and 1,178 children, giving more than 5,262 prescriptions given.

Providing medical care in three cities, the team often divided into three or four teams, working in various neighborhoods at one time. At one point, they even worked inside a Hindu temple.

The team of 25, including four doctors and five nurses, departed from Dallas on October 23 and returned on November 8. Led by Dr. Janet Merrill and Dr. Sonya Merrill, they had a dual focus: to meet the needs—both physical and spiritual—of the urban poor and to train Christian leaders.

Michael - IndiaThe leadership training changed lives in a different way… 260 pastors and church leaders attended a two-day conference in Bangalore.

“The pastors were like sponges, absorbing every word,” First Baptist Dallas Minister to Missions and trip member Michael Fore said. “Most of them have as many as five churches they serve at a time. It was so rewarding to see their surprise and appreciation as they were presented with the bicycles and Bibles.”

Though the 2009 trip is over, the team’s thoughts are already on 2010.

“We look forward to what God has in store for the next mission of Joy India,” Wickam said.
