To God Be The Glory! First Baptist Dallas Breaks Ground For New Campus

Article posted July 11, 2010

Immediately following the powerful 10:50am service on Sunday, July 11, Dr. Robert Jeffress, Planning & Development Committee Chairman Mark Lovvorn and members of the church congregation broke ground on First Baptist Dallas' new downtown campus.

The $115 million dollar building project, the largest church revitalization project in U.S. history, will include a 3,000-seat, state-of-the-art worship center, a fountain plaza with a water tower topped by a cross, a new education building, hundreds more parking spaces and a sky bridge across St. Paul Street that will tie the different parts of the new campus into a unified whole.

The ceremony represented more than just a milestone in the 138-year history of First Baptist Dallas.  It marked the culmination of a spiritual revival in the church and the beginning of a new era for the city of Dallas.

“This is a critical and important investment in downtown Dallas,” Mayor Tom Leppert said during a previous press conference. “It will have an impact on this community and what we're trying to accomplish of creating more of an urban setting that is vibrant and exciting and brings people downtown.”

“This new campus is not an end in itself,” Dr. Jeffress said. “The ultimate goal has always been to transform our campus in a way that would glorify God and better equip the church for 21st century ministry.”
