The Twenties Class: All About Image

Think the TWENTIES Class at First Dallas is all about image? You’re exactly right.
This fall these single twenty-somethings set out on a mission to reflect Christ’s image in Dallas, engaging the area with visible demonstrations of God’s love.
In August, the class collected cans of food and clothing items. Class members then personally delivered the them to Dallas LIFE, the largest homeless shelter in the city.
Their ministry continued on September 12 when the class partnered with local missionaries Carl and Kerry Lorey, who work with Bhutanese refugees.
During this afternoon of ministry, class members shared their testimonies and used the EvangeCube, a witnessing tool. The group also showed the Jesus Film to the refugees in their own language and prayed extensively for their new friends.
“It is always a blast to go and witness,” TWENTIES Class’ Outreach Coordinator Camilla Velasco said. “Every time I have a chance to see God's power work through my broken yet forgiven life I'm overwhelmed and amazed at His grace and mercy in letting us take part in His beautiful plan of redemption.”
And, the class’s plan to radiate Christ’s love continues through the fall.
On Friday, October 9-10, the class will join with other singles classes and travel to Timpson, Texas, to work with East Texas Baptist Family Ministries (ETBFM). The class will spend Saturday painting, cleaning, and working on the campus, which houses foster children, expectant mothers, and retired ministers in their time of need.
Through the month of October, the class will also have a diaper drive for the Downtown Pregnancy Center and a clothing drive for the Bhutanese refugees. Also, they are participating in a singles-wide outreach to distribute bottles of water before the Oklahoma vs. Texas game, October 17 at the Fair Grounds.
In addition to ministry and Sunday Morning Bible study, co-taught by Nathan Rice and Heath Barkley, the class builds community with weekly fellowship. Broomball, paintball, game nights, BBQs, and lake days have provided opportunities for members to connect outside of church.
With this dedication to ministry and community, the TWENTIES Class is changing the image of its generation—from self-serving to Christ-seeking.
