The Rewards of Giving Back

467 food items donated to Dallas LIFEOver a span of three weeks, our 1st through 6th graders collected 467 food items to donate to Dallas LIFE, a ministry partner of First Baptist Dallas.

“In Kids Cove we’re teaching the boys and girls the Word of God, yet also feel it is important for each of them to put into action what they are learning,” Becky McAllister said. “Serving others brings our focus off of ourselves and helps us see how God can work through us to bring joy and happiness to others.”

The children’s ministry made the food drive a fun competition for the kids, dividing them into two groups, 1st-3rd and 4th-6th, letting the grades compete within their groups for who could bring the most food, and rewarding the winners with a candy buffet.candybuffet-congrats

Candy wasn’t the only thing that our children got out of giving – thankfulness, joy and selfless attitudes were in abundance in Kids Cove last week.

“Since others do not have as much as we do, I wanted to give,” 7-year-old John Mark Tarwater said, followed by his 10-year-old brother, Joshua – “I really like macaroni and cheese and was glad to share it with others.”

“This wonderful donation of food not only speaks to the dedicated volunteer efforts of the children’s ministry of First Baptist Dallas, but also the wonderful partnership we continue to have with one of the most well known and remarkable churches of our time,” Dallas LIFE Executive Director Rev. Bob Sweeney said. “We count it a privilege to touch the lives of the needy with the many meals this food donation will provide.”
