Sacrificing Something Hard to “Lego” Of

Article posted May 19, 2010

Nathan Denman - 1On Announcement Sunday, May 16, 9-year-old Nathan Denman shared with Dr. Jeffress, and our congregation, the following testimony:

“A few weeks before the Capital Campaign Commitment Sunday, [God] told me I needed to have a garage sale because I didn’t have much money to give. He wanted me to give a lot of my books, toys, DVDs, movies and things, and my mom said that was fine.

Nathan Denman - 2A couple of weeks later, He told me I needed to give my army Lego kit. I love this kit so much that I hated to give it up, but I wanted to be obedient to God, because [Dr. Jeffress] taught me that God’s sacrificial gift to us was Jesus and a real sacrifice meant giving up something we love.

That night when I had to pack them up, I was so sad – not because I didn’t want to obey God, but because I would miss them. I cried and asked Mom if she would finish packing them, and even though this was hard to do, in my heart I was happy and joyful because I was obeying God.

After the garage sale, I told my mom that ‘even with our really low prices, God really blessed our garage sale.’”

Because of Nathan’s sacrificial gift, First Baptist Dallas is $505 dollars closer to our beautiful new campus. Way to go, Nathan!
