Passing Down A Legacy of Faith

Brad and Britany JustBrad and Britany Just knew from day one how important it was that their three boys walk alongside them during the capital campaign. They didn’t want Peter, Matthew and Samuel to miss out on the blessing that comes with sacrifice – something they experienced immediately after giving sacrificially to the Criswell Center a few years ago.

“When I think of the campaign name ‘For Generations to Come,’ I think about more than the building that will come as a result of the campaign,” Britany said. I see it as the lessons that our kids will learn, watching Brad and I as we go through the campaign. I see it as an opportunity to teach them what it means to give sacrificially, how to put their security in God and not in earthly things, and how God blesses us when we step out in faith and obedience.”

What Brad and Britany didn’t know, as they looked for teachable moments with their children, was how Peter, Matthew and Samuel would influence them as well. You see, as a part of their parents’ 1+6=7 Prayer Team, the boys learned how important the new campus was to their mommy and daddy and the future of First Baptist Dallas.

“Dear God, please let the people give enough money to build our new church,” Peter, their oldest, prayed one evening, tugging at the hearts of his parents as they neared a decision about what their gift should be.

“We looked at all of our assets, money we have saved up for retirement, savings, 401K, and thought, ‘maybe it’s time to redirect what we’re putting away for our future, to God’s kingdom for the future generations here,’” Brad said. “We can never out-give God’s ability to take care of us and our future.”

“I think on May 2 God will show us all what can be done through Him, that nothing is beyond His hand,” Brad added. “By giving sacrificially, we’re passing
much more than a building down to our children and our children’s children,
we’re passing down a legacy of faith.”
