Message in a Bottle
Longhorn emblems and OU logos had some competition at the Red River Shootout on Saturday, October 17.
Nineteen First Baptist Dallas young adults handed out 2,500 water bottles—labeled with the church’s logo—to Oklahoma and Texas fans as they entered the stadium.
“It was an incredible time of service,” Twenty Class Director Nathan Rice said.
“The response we received was amazing,” Rice said. “Often we heard remarks such as ‘That is so cool!’ and ‘You are my hero!’ We even had cops come by to ask for bottles––when I was a little worried they had come to ask us to leave.”
After the game began, the class headed back to the church and watched the game in the Twenty Class’ room.
“We are so thankful the church sponsored this event and believe the bottles, which had our logo on them, generated a good deal of positive publicity for our church as well as the Church as a whole,” Rice said.
This is the third year the singles department has undertaken this project, which has grown each year.
“I had several people comment that they remembered getting water from us last year or the year before,” Young Professionals Director Tag Green said. “So I think the project is slowly allowing us to develop a positive reputation with some in the community.”
“It’s a great encouragement to me to see people from different Sunday school classes working together to accomplish a task that’s greater than ourselves,” Green said.
