Junior High Students "Breakaway" for the Weekend
This past weekend our junior high students retreated to Sabine Creek Ranch in Royse City for fun, fellowship and spiritual growth.
Student Minister Randy Riggins held sessions Friday night and Saturday about overcoming fears and developing a stronger relationship with Jesus, Matt Wheeler led worship, and this guy named Eddie Miles hung out with the students all weekend – little did they know, they were getting to know and love their new associate student minister.
Randy announced Eddie to the students Saturday night after an afternoon of “Shenaniganz” – literally. Though a high ropes course was planned and cancelled due to bad weather, the students had a blast at the popular Rockwall eatery and fun house, playing laser tag,
bowling and riding go-karts.
“The future of our church was ministered to this weekend,” Adult Volunteer Marilynn White said. Marilynn was especially impressed with how the new associate student minister, Eddie, connected with Nikko and Blake, two boys she brought to the retreat, who didn’t have much experience with church – “I thought he was amazing with them,” she said. “Every time I turned around he was talking to them, playing ping-pong with them … just investing time in them.”
“After getting to know their mother, I had invited Nikko and Blake to church a few times, but they were kind of like deer in headlights,” Marilynn said. “At this retreat, they got the opportunity to get to know and have fun with other kids, and adult leaders. They felt wanted and valued. Their mom told me that when they got home they couldn’t stop singing ‘Jesus songs’ and stayed up late talking to her about the retreat.”
Eddie’s take – “It was a great opportunity to get away from everyday life, to connect with awesome kids and caring leaders, and to grow deeper in our relationships with Christ. I can’t wait to officially be a part of the First Baptist Dallas team.”
