Green Benefits

Article posted May 26, 2010

As our old buildings come down, so will energy costs. The new re-created campus of First Baptist Dallas will be certified by the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System. In fact, First Dallas already began the practice of going "green" ...

Two of the main reasons we strive to be "green":

  1. We believe that your tithes and offerings should go towards ministry and not wasted energy.
  2. We believe that God has given the earth to us as a gift, and we have a responsibility to take care of it.

That's why daily, Gary James, First Dallas' energy education manager, works to help the church staff/facilities reduce energy waste; to make sure things like our lighting, heating and power work together to be "green" and save "green."

"The amount of emissions avoided this year will be equivalent to taking approximately 380 cars off the road for one year," James said. "It will also be equivalent to planting 55,000 tree seedlings and growing them for ten years."

Estimated cost avoidance for 2010 to exceed $450,000.
