Former Planned Parenthood Director Keynotes Downtown Pregnancy Center Luncheon

Article posted March 1, 2010

Guest Speaker Abby JohnsonIt was undeniable what Abby Johnson saw on the sonogram screen as she, director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan/College Station, assisted in an abortion procedure last October – the baby, inside it’s mother’s womb, could feel pain at seven weeks, and continued to move away from the doctor’s prodding cannula.

That day changed Abby’s life forever. Now a pro-life spokesperson, Abby told more than 400 guests at our Downtown Pregnancy Center’s Love of Life Luncheon that she had believed a lie.

“Saturday’s Love of Life luncheon was a wonderful success on many levels,” DPC Executive Director Carolyn Cline said. “Our guests not only learned about the effective ministry of the Downtown Pregnancy Center, but were educated to a new level by our keynote speaker, Abby Johnson, regarding the falsehoods and manipulations used by Planned Parenthood to convince women that abortion is in their best interest.”

Applauding work of DPCThe Downtown Pregnancy Center held the Love of Life luncheon to raise support for their mission: to help women choose life – both for their unborn child, and for themselves in Christ.

Twenty-dollar tickets included a delicious meal at the Adolphus Hotel in downtown Dallas and one ticket for the popular DPC raffle, “Bags for Babies.” The raffle sported more than 20 designer bags, donated by local boutiques and department stores, and the majority of guests bought extra tickets to increase their chances, and to support the DPC. At the end, guests were given the opportunity to give a one-time or continuing gift to the DPC, were told about volunteer needs and were also challenged to pray for the work of the center.

Director of Development Vicki Gosdin with friends of the DPC“God’s calling to “rescue the perishing” is for all of us,” Cline said. “Through the work of the DPC, we as believers can have a real impact in our community by sharing hope and help in Jesus’ name and by offering truth regarding the gift of life.”

A ministry partner of First Baptist Dallas, The Downtown Pregnancy Center operates on the campus of First Baptist Dallas as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit entity.

In 2009 alone, the Downtown Pregnancy Center saved 271 babies from abortion and saw 130 clients give their life to Christ.
