First Dallas Singles Rally Around Service and Community

Article posted March 15, 2010

Singles Rally - JamesSunday’s Singles Rally proved what most people suspect about the ministry—a bright future is budding.

And, that future meets two main needs: service and community.

“An abundance of people really want to give back. People want to make their lives count,” Singles Minister James Patterson explained. “There’s a lot of buzz about community service. We want to enable and promote that.”

Additionally, Patterson notes, “There is a desperate need for good, quality community for our singles.”

Singles RallySingles Rally 2Casting a vision at the rally, Patterson announced plans to meet both of these needs.

First, two new week-day events will begin soon. Rhythm, a Thursday-night event for college and young singles, will begin in May. Also, a Wednesday-night event for median singles is in the planning stages.

Next, singles will soon be serving ministries such as Dallas Life and Bridge Builders. Participation in Intersect Dallas, October 22¬–23, is just one example of outreach opportunities ahead.

A heart for missions is also key to the developing college ministry. For example, Jordan Graham, new college intern, is taking a group to SENT, a missions conference in Houston, April 16¬–17.

Extreme fun also plays a role in the ministry’s future. A rafting trip to Colorado is already on the calendar in June, with camping trips, intramural teams, sports outings coming soon.

Finally, Patterson is not setting out to lead this effort alone. At the rally, he introduced a new leadership team: The Horaios Project. Meaning “belonging to the right hour or season,” Paul used this word to describe the dirty feet of those who bring the Good News of Christ.
