First Dallas Children's Ministry Externally Focused
Every week, it seems, the children at First Dallas take part in something bigger than themselves, with continual service projects benefitting everyone from the homeless in Dallas to orphans in India.
Their Most Recent Service Project:
This past Wednesday, our 5th and 6th grade AWANA students had a blast filling pencil bags, which they themselves decorated during Vacation Bible School, with toys, pencils, markers, toothbrush/toothpaste sets, etc. for orphans in India. A First Dallas adult mission team traveling to India in November looks forward to delivering the thoughtful gifts.
Current Projects:
Throughout the month of October: AWANA kids, Pre-K through 6th grade, are rallying to collect gently used and new coats, gloves, hats, etc. for Operation Care International's "Christmas Gift 2011."
From now until Christmas: The children's ministry will collect boxed Christmas cards for the First Dallas prison ministry to allow prisoners to send Christmas cards to their loved ones.
Upcoming Projects:
November 6-20: Canned goods drive for Dallas LIFE; the grade that brings the most gets to have a decorate-a-cookie party!
December 11 (Sunday school Christmas parties): 1st-6th grade students will collect and donate items such as clothing, toiletries, toys, and books to make care packages for Foster Kids Charity. The 2nd-6th graders will actually put these care packages together during their parties.
"As we teach the kids in Kids Cove the Word of God, we feel it's important to give them opportunities to become salt and light in the world, as Jesus commanded," Elementary Director Becky McAllister said. "Our kids are are learning how to light up their community and world with the selfless love of Christ."
