FBA Creating Educated and Passionate Christ-Followers Year After Year

Article posted June 3, 2009

Endorsed by our Pastor, esteemed by top-tier colleges, and blessed by God, First Baptist Academy reaches out to families in Dallas and the surrounding areas in a way that few churches are able – through education.

“In 6th grade I had a teacher named Mr. Johnson,” 2009 graduate Luke Sawyer shared. “I struggled a lot in math, but he believed in me and told me God would help me. After a month of tutoring and sitting side by side with me in class making sure I understood every problem, it paid off. All the teachers here are like that,” Luke said.fba-grads

Luke heads to Dallas Baptist University in the fall, feeling extremely prepared for the challenges ahead. His mom, seeing her other two sons succeed after graduating from FBA, is confident in Luke’s bright future as well.

Tessie Sawyer isn’t the only parent promoting FBA. Don Scarbrough, the dad of 2009 graduate, Ashley, had a similar praise.

“If you look for an environment for your child in which they can have an outstanding college preparatory experience, in a Christian environment where prayer is a daily part of their lives, where Bible study is a major part of the curriculum, give First Baptist Academy a very close look,” Don said.

And it’s not just the Christian education everyone raves about – As the students prepare for their future in the business world, a glance out the window, or an off campus field trip, literally puts them in it.

“We are so thankful to be in the middle of this city – the DART train is just two blocks away, so we can hop on and be at the holocaust museum, or an art exhibit, in a matter of minutes,” Luke said. “That’s just one thing that’s unique about FBA.”

Both the Sawyer and the Scarbrough families belong to First Baptist Church Dallas as well, feeling blessed to worship alongside the same families they cheer with at basketball games.

“The first six years Ashley was a student at FBA, we were members of a church elsewhere, but we were spending so much time with FBA friends and activities that we began visiting First Baptist Church,” Don said. “We were made to feel so welcome! It was such a positive experience. There was no question in our minds that God was calling us to First Dallas. That was almost seven years ago and we have never looked back at that decision.”

First Baptist Academy has a place for your child … take it from Luke - “FBA is a small environment, but you don’t feel small. You’re friends with everyone.”
