Chapel Choir and Orchestra to New York, Washington D.C.

Article posted June 29, 2010

New York/Washington D.C. Tour logo 20102010 continues to be a historic year at First Baptist Dallas as 119 high school students, adult sponsors and ministry directors travel to the two most influential cities in the world: Washington, D.C. and New York City.

Following nine months of musical preparation, financial sacrifice and prayerful guidance, Chapel participants will begin their week at The Brooklyn Tabernacle in a Tuesday evening prayer service, held weekly and attended by thousands who believe miracles still happen when God’s people unite to pray. At the invitation of Pastor Jim Cymbala, our students will sing during this prayer service, an honor rarely given to any group. Concerts venues in America’s capital will include The Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, and two concerts on Sunday, July 4, honoring veterans – America’s often forgotten heroes.

While in The Big Apple, Chapel students will receive ministry training through the New York School of Urban Ministry (NYSUM) for focused, short-term ministry projects located throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and The Bronx. Students will divide into small groups to serve in food pantries, soup kitchens and distribution centers, and lead in prayer walks across the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn into Manhattan. The MasterPeace vocal ensemble will sing at the historic Bowery Mission and distribute evangelistic tracks while performing on Coney Island. In the opulent shadows of Trump Tower and Madison Square Garden, our group will unite for “compassion training” before sharing songs and supplies to New York’s homeless population through an evening of outreach.

Other highlights will include shopping in Times Square, enjoying the Broadway musical, Wicked, touring our nation’s capital and national monuments, experiencing the “Changing of the Guard” at Arlington National Cemetery, and spending an afternoon in the Smithsonian Museums. Sunday worship at Washington’s National Cathedral promises to be both meaningful and memorable.

We look forward to sharing all God has ahead for us with you at the Chapel Tour Home Concert Sunday evening, July 11 at 6pm. In the meantime, please pray for God’s safety as we travel, the unity of our hearts and minds through The Holy Spirit, and that each student and sponsor will return fully aware of God’s purpose for his/her life.
