Chapel Choir & Orchestra Garage Sale Opens with a Bang

Article posted March 22, 2010

The opening-weekend profits of the Chapel Choir & Orchestra Garage Sale proved why it’s an annual event.

In the first weekend of sales, students raised $36,611.95 for their music/mission tour to Washington D.C. and New York City.

“Our Chapel high school students have done an outstanding job, from greeting customers to sorting clothes and moving furniture,” Student Orchestra Director Jarrod Blackstock said.

Living up to its name, “World’s Largest Garage Sale,” the warehouse-sized showroom featured an abundance of items, including clothes, books, furniture and an unusually large number of Christmas decorations.

“We had a very nice dining room set—table, chairs, China cabinet—that we sold for $1,100 on Saturday,” Blackstock bragged.

And, though many First Dallas members perused the items, the sale reaches out to the entire community.

“We sold most of the appliances, two couches, some end tables, and miscellaneous kitchen storage items to a TV crew filming in Dallas,” Blackstock said.

Though early customers snatched up hot items, bargains remain for this weekend’s shoppers.

“We still have a lot of treasures for people to find,” Blackstock said. “We have something for everyone!”

The garage sale is open again this Friday, March 26, 8am–8pm, and Saturday, March 27, 8am–6pm. The sale is located in the Automobile Building at Fair Park, across from Old Mill restaurant (Gate 4) and parking is free.
