Age Doesn’t Slow Body or Spirit of Long-Time Member Orville Rogers

Orville RogersWhile others dreamed of coasting for the latter part of their lives, Orville Rogers, at the age of 50, started running.

Now, at age 92, with miles of track behind him, Orville holds world records in the indoor 800-meter and the indoor mile, and just recently set the American record in the 1,500 meter and 3,000 meter races in his age-range at the World Masters Indoor Championships in Kamloops.

“His running is an extension of his life,” Orville’s son, Bill Rogers, said, referring to his father’s enduring walk with Christ.

After the first world record, a freelance writer for New York Times magazine asked Orville what motivated him to continue running. He replied by quoting Hebrews 12:1-2:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
