A Manual Labor of Love
Manual labor: punishment or project?
How do members of First Baptist Dallas’ singles department answer?
Neither—it’s a mission.
On Friday, October 9, 19 volunteers representing the Chad Nichols class, the Twenties class and the Young Professionals class traveled more than three hours to the East Texas Baptist Family Ministries (ETBFM) in Timpson.
ETBFM provides homes for children in foster care, expectant mothers,
and retired ministers in their time of need. The ministry also provides space for recreational, educational and retreat events.
On Saturday, the volunteers rolled up their sleeves, and labored for six hours to serve a ministry that serves others.
The volunteers cleared brush and debris from land so a home for retired ministers can be built. Others cleaned out trash from areas so other homes could be finished.
A few volunteers mowed and weed-eated, and others cleaned fences on the property.
“They rely on volunteers to continue the work God has called them to do
and we look forward to serving alongside them each year,” Jennifer Sypert said.
At the end of the trip, what was the response to free manual labor on a Saturday afternoon?
“We had a great time!” Tag Green said.
